Cozy with Sarkozy

It goes without saying that art and politics, so far as China is concerned, are linked in a most unharmonious, if productive, marriage. As this week has seen France signing a $12 billion nuclear energy deal with China, and news comes that five of the world's ten top grossing companies are located in that nation, one gets the feeling that the bubble is only going to get bigger.

Curiously, what one never expects is for a figurative marriage to become potentially tangible. Namu, the Mosuo-Chinese popstar, was probably last seen by most American audiences being interviewed by Michael Palin for his excellent documentary series on the Himalayas. The catch in Namu's plan, however, is that Mosuo women don't marry--which may be the best of all possible worlds for the French president.
